Company Profile

One of the world's pioneering registry service providers, CentralNic provides registry services, distribution, and strategic consultancy for new TLDs, ccTLDs and SLDs.

CentralNic uses in-house developed IT platforms to distribute our portfolio of popular domains to a global network of over 1500 registrars (retailers such as GoDaddy LLC), which sell these to end users. Further, CentralNic provides consultancy services to companies seeking to create their own domains.

Our powerful registry engine has an eighteen year track record of uninterrupted and unblemished service, and it is supported by innovative marketing and personal customer service. Additionally, our flexible and scalable platform is above ICANN specification for new TLDs.

CentralNic operates from our global headquarters in London plus offices in New York, Dubai and Los Angeles. We also have on-the-ground account executives in Hong Kong, Abu Dhabi and Melbourne.

CentralNic supported over 60 gTLD applications in the first round, including .wiki, .bar, .xyz and .ink, and quickly became the largest registry back-end provider worldwide. We are proud to continue to support new and existing gTLD applicants electing to use our registry backend to optimise their sales globally. Our specialised service for global brands, DotBrand Solutions, is behind the applications for household name and multi-billion dollar company applicants spanning three continents.

Infrastructure & IT

CentralNic has developed and now operates a proprietary registry engine. Over the course of recent years, CentralNic has upgraded our technology to ensure that it is compliant with the more stringent technical standards required by ICANN in order to act as a registry for new gTLDs. The CentralNic solution is fully ICANN compliant and was developed in house with the specific aim of meeting ICANN requirements.

CentralNic has achieved a 100 per cent. track record of DNS availability for domains delegated to it over a period of fifteen years. Key features of CentralNic’s system include:

CentralNic is committed to innovation, and we are actively involved in the introduction and development of new technologies including EPP and IRIS. In addition to our own in-house registry system, we have also provided technical consultation to a number of gTLD and ccTLD operators. We develop a range of utilities and software libraries in a collaborative, open source fashion. For more information, please visit the CentralNic Labs.

In 2016, CentralNic is celebrating 20 years as a specialist domain industry registry, using its own unique portfolio of domain names including and to sell domains such as Over the years, CentralNic has secured arrangements with the owners of many other domains (including .LA and .PW) to include these in its global distribution network and share the revenues received. In the period from its establishment, CentralNic built up a global distribution network of over 1,500 entities authorised to retail the CentralNic domain portfolio, representing over 50 per cent of the global retail market. CentralNic has recently signed a contract with the world’s largest registrar, GoDaddy, which will increase CentralNic’s coverage of the global retail market to 83 per cent.

During 2011 and 2012, CentralNic embarked on a number of growth strategies, including winning new gTLD and ccTLD clients. CentralNic secured contracts with clients applying for 60 new gTLDs to provide registry, distribution and, in some cases, marketing services.

More on Country-Code .Com Extensions

Top Level Domain names such as .com, .net, and .org are used by companies and non-profit organizations to identify themselves on the internet, and each country in the world has its own Country Code TLD, such as .uk for the United Kingdom and .de for Germany.

CentralNic uses the .com, .net and .org standard domain name structure to offer additional regional and country-specific domain names – a secure and inexpensive solution for creating easily identifiable internet addresses worldwide. CentralNic's registry service is particularly useful for Internet users in countries where domain names are difficult to obtain due to restrictive domain regulations or where the market is already saturated and good names are difficult to come by.

However, the CentralNic portfolio also has wide appeal to individuals and companies seeking to define an internet identity in a region or country where they intend to establish or expand their business, or for any other reason establish a geographically distinct identity. Users often turn to CentralNic when a conventional Top Level Domain (TLD) such as .com, or a country TLD such as .uk address has already been claimed by another party.

CentralNic has a worldwide network of more than 1,500 registrars that provides customers with efficient local access for registration. The company also provides extensive customer support, including legal expertise on such issues such as country-specific regulations and individual vs. corporate ownership of domain names.

Carbon Neutral

In May 2011, CentralNic succeeded in attaining CarbonNeutral status and continues to retain this status to date. The company has been working on reducing its carbon footprint to net zero, taking the lead on environmental commitment within the domain name industry. All the emissions relating to the company, including energy consumption, waste and business travel, are quantified and then reduced through combining internal changes (for example, using virtualization technology and more efficient servers to reduce power consumption in its data centers, increasing recycling and implementing low carbon vehicles) with carbon offsetting. Through offsetting, every tonne of CO2 is matched by an equivalent amount saved by a significant renewable energy or resource conservation project.
